Hmmmm... this sort of makes me uncomfortable for some reason as I'm reading it now -- perhaps it connotes to me too strongly a traditional approach to trying to convert people.
well maybe - remember, this was 2000 years ago, and people didn't share our current aversion for conversion :) also, more metaphorically, i think it refers to not "converting" people, but rather, spiritualizing them - for this is, after all, Jesus, the prophet of God, speaking...
